After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
A sword user delivers a simple upward kick, generally aimed at the groin when possible, generating enough force on impact to knock the target straight up in the air. The moment the kick connects, the user whirls about and delivers a downward slash with their blade. The goal of these attacks is to drastically enhance the cutting power of the sword by causing the foe to slam into the blade with upward force as said sword travels in a downward arc. The end result is a more grievous wound than what the sword would normally generate, from both the spinning motion incorporated into the slash as well as the upward force applied to the target by the aforementioned kick.
A simple technique, utilizing a moment of deceit and the swordsman’s overwhelming speed to create an opening. The user initiates this technique by dropping their sword to the side and remaining completely motionless for a single moment, feigning exhaustion or injury. He or she then lunges forward in the blink of an eye and latches onto the foe with an open hand, using the "tiger claw" hand utilized in many traditional marital arts. The user then pulls the target towards himself whilst simultaneously swinging their blade in the direction opposite the victim's movement. This causes the target to hit the blade with greater impact force than what the user would be able to achieve by swinging the sword by itself, as well as making it incredibly difficult for the target to dodge the attack.
The user swings his blade up around his neck and drapes it over his opposite shoulder, leaning forward and angling his body so that the flat of the blade is facing the opponent. With his sword positioned in this manner, the ninja uses the flat of the blade as a shield to intercept a melee-based attack. The moment the attack connects with the blade, the user pushes his weapon - and thus blocked attack - off to the side. Quickly hefting his blade skyward, the ninja takes advantage of whatever opening he created by blocking the attack and delivers a powerful downward slash at the opponent. This single attacks utilizes both the wielder’s strength as well as the momentum generated by blocking the opponent’s attack; the aforementioned attack forces the blade upward, thus allowing the shinobi to turn that upward motion into force behind his or her attack.
This simple slash is meant to sever incoming projectiles with the cutting edge of one's sword, inspired by the way in which boulders can part a river's current. A precisely timed slash cleaves kunai, shuriken, even senbon in twain; the force of this attack alters the trajectory of these objects, sending the severed halves to either side of Setsuna and leaving him untouched. This slash is not limited to protecting the sage from mundane weaponry; projectiles forged from chakra – be they fireballs, streams of water, or other manipulations of natural forces – can also be torn in half by the cutting edge of his sword. However, doing so can be considerably more difficult than sundering traditional substances, and as such can leave his weapons in a damaged and brittle state, if not outright shattered or rendered a melted, twisted wreck.
This is less of an attack and more of a movement-based strategy. The user dashes around the target, rapidly and fluidly alternating between rapid and slow movements in a haphazard pattern. Doing so aims to disorientate the targets, making it difficult to predict where and when the user will slow down next. When used by a shinobi with possessing abnormally high speed, one can appear to almost teleport around their victims whilst leaving behind multiple afterimages to instigate further confusion. Users can also implement the use of replicas to further add to the confusion, as well as open up the opportunity for additional attacks to be made. Primarily used when surrounding an enemy, the technique is similar to the movements made when one uses the front lotus set up of dashing around an opponent.

A deceptive thrust of one’s blade passes by the target’s midriff and extends as far behind them as possible. The angle of the weapon is then altered with a flick of the risk, bringing it parallel to the flat of the victim’s back. The wielder shoots his or her free hand forward to grab the portion of the blade exposed from the opposite side of the target, effectively trapping the victim between the wielder and his or her sword. It is from this positioning that the name of this technique is derived; the wielder’s arms, sword, and torso make up the four straightish lines composing a square. The shinobi pulls the sword back towards him or her, dragging the victim up close and personal whilst simultaneously slicing open the small of their back. This unusual grappling technique holds the target fast, as attempts to escape generally cause the steel at their backs to further burrow into their flesh. While locked in place, the user will assail the victim with a series of habits to the face and knee strikes to deal as much damage as possible before the target finds a way to break free.
Hiza ni ya [Arrow in the Knee] C-Rank || Kenjutsu || Short-Range || Offensive
A single slash with a singular purpose; rendering a foe physically crippled and incapable of movement. A series of quick, nonlethal jabs with the user’s free hand distracts the foe, whose focus shifts to dodging linear attacks aimed at the torso. This rapid flurry of punches are aimed in an attempt to corral the opponent into an advantageous position, whether that be pushing him or her up against a wall or sampling shifting their stance to make an opening. Once prepared the user throws a high punch towards the enemy’s face whilst simultaneously running the target’s knee through with the blade clenched in the other hand. Doing so severs many of the tendons necessary for the leg to properly function, as well as provides the opportunity for the user to pull of their embedded weapon like a lever to pry out the victim’s kneecap.
Setsuna infuses his blade with wind chakra, causes to to levitate a few inches above his palm. The weapon spins around rapidly in place, generating an effect similar to that of a buzz-saw. Setsuna then pulls the arm controlling his blade back and hurls said sword like a discus towards his foe. The extreme velocity at which the sword spins allows it to chew through small tree trunks and carve out deep gouges in stone with ease. After traveling fifteen meters the sword will lose momentum and drop to the ground.
This technique has one remain in constant motion in order to maintain a 360 degree awareness of their surroundings. Byakko no Ryu user’s meet this demand by consistently shifting their footing in a manner reminiscent of dance styles such as the waltz, allowing them to spin around and fluidly transition their stances in a natural progression. Simultaneously, the shinobi will swing his or her sword about in a controlled fashion as to enable them to readjust the weapon’s position and momentum at a moment’s notice. Unusually graceful blows with the flat of one’s blade, as well as taijutsu strikes with the palm, backs of the hand, and forearm, enable users to redirect the force behind incoming attacks away from their center. Attacks are not directly blocked; they are redirected away, enabling minimal energy consumption whilst simultaneously defending against all manner of attacks. Proficient users can easily take advantage of the opening made through these redirections in order to perform devastating counterattacks.
Twisting the sword so that its cutting edge points upward, the user twists their grip and delivers a single upward slash with their blade. The user does not stop once the attack is made, instead using the upward momentum to perform a backflip in midair. Once the user lands back on his feet, he delivers a similar upward strike similar to the first with the blade. The main advantage of this attack is that it is able to catch foes off-guard, especially if they were able to deflect or dodge the first blow. After all, the method through which this follow up attack is “unique,” to say the least. Additionally, the follow-up blow is significantly more powerful than the first, utilizing the momentum generated from the backflip to tear through the target’s defenses.
The extreme speed favored over raw force is embodied in this technique. Flipping ones sword of their shoulder, the user dashes forward a short distance at speeds so fast they appear to almost teleport a short distance. In the fraction of a second that the shinobi first appears before the target, he or she seemingly performs a single downward slash. In reality, by the time the sword reaches the ground a total of twelve such slashes have been delivered in the blink of an eye. While each of these attacks are easily capable of bisecting a foe, they are oftentimes aimed with the intent to completely cripple the foe's mobility. Tendons, muscles, bones - all of these can be targeted into other to render a limb severely crippled, if not outright useless.
Setsuna performs a downward slash with his blade as fast as possible, having infused his sword with wind chakra the moment prior. The sheer speed of this motion, combined with the wind chakra expelled from the blade during this motion, creates a vacuum that pulls his foe and any objects within a five-meter radius directly in front of him. Targets that demonstrate exceptional speed or strength are able to resist the vacuum's pull, though it requires truly outstanding physical abilities to completely resist the force of the vacuum. Setsuna then performs an upward slash a moment later, creating another chakra-infused vacuum a short distance from the first. This effectively "traps" the target in place, as each vacuum continues to exert force on the target in equal and opposite directions. Once his quarry is restrained Setsuna grips his blade in both hands and performs a devastatingly powerful downward slash, causing both vacuums to rupture and detonate in an outward explosion of wind. This explosion delivers a tremendous concussive blast aimed away from Setsuna that can toss a full-grown adult backwards up to ten meters with tremendous force. Dodging this final blow is extremely difficult, as when restrained the target is essentially levitated in midair; without the ability to touch the ground or grab a solid surface within arm's reach, maneuvering is extremely difficult. The attack can still be blocked, however, and the victim can also attempt to contort their body to minimize the severity of the wound.

This two-part technique epitomizes the very core of Byakko no Ryu’s combat style, combining speed and underhanded tactics into one beautiful attack. While within a distance no greater than five paces from the target, the shinobi dashes forward with their sword drawn at an angle seemingly aimed to decapitate the foe. Instead, the user dashes slightly past the target whilst slamming the flat of their sword into the victim’s throat. Using the point between the blade and the victim’s throat as an anchor the shinobi spins around the back of target until face-to-face, immediately delivering a bone-crushing head-butt that sends the victim stumbling backwards in pain. The shinobi then dashes forward at their fastest possible speed and rams through the victim’s body with the point of their sword. This skill is often implemented whilst near large, immobile objects; the sheer force of this final thrust not only buries the user’s sword down to its pommel in the target’s flesh, but can send them rocketing backwards up to ten meters and nail them to a solid surface and render them immobilized.
Fūton: Yokaze No Tsuchi [Wind Release: Northern Wind Hammer] A-Rank || Kenjutsu || All Ranges || Offensive
Gripping his sword with two hands, Setsuna infuses the blade of his sword with an immense quantity of wind-element chakra. He then delivers a single slash with the sword at speeds so extreme it almost appears as if the weapon teleported from above his head to by his feet in the blink of an eye. The extreme speeds at which this attack is made generates a small shock wave that travels forward a five meters in the direction of the sword's swing. By itself this initial shock wave isn't much at all; at best, it can send the average shinobi stumbling backwards a couple of meters, assuming they escape the reach of his sword's swing. However, as Setsuna's blade travels downward, the wind chakra housed within his weapon is released and saturates the air it passes through and causes it to become extremely volatile, for lack of a better term. This chakra-laden air reacts violently to the shockwave caused by the initial slash; moments after the initial shockwave is detonated, the tremendous potential energy stored in this air is violently converted into kinetic energy. All of these factors accumulate in a destructive sonic boom traveling up to thirty meters away from Setsuna. Along this trajectory the width of the attack rapidly expands at a 45 degree angle. The sheer force generated by this attack is enough to reduce land-forms to piles rubble, and inflicts enough concussive force on those caught in the blast radius to send them flying backwards up to thirty meters like rag dolls.
